What can you give a dog with diarrhea

Are you completely sure that your dog did not get into anything poisonous? If not then you should take him immediately to the vet.

Dogs get upset tummies just like we do. Give your dog one teaspoon of Pepto Bismol per pound of body weight. You can also give them the tablets, which they may chew. If you need to give liquid put it in a syringe and squirt in the back of his/her mouth. Do this every four to six hours, and you should see a slowing in the stomach discomfort over time. If this doesn’t seem to help after 48 hours it’s time to make a call to the vet.

When a dog has diarrhea you also need to take them off of their normal food and give them foods that will be easier on their tummy. You can start by feeding your dog small amounts of rice and make sure that they have plenty of water available. When the dog is able to hold down the rice and water you can introduce chicken to the rice. Feed the dog this mixture for at least 24 hours after the diarrhea stops and then slowly reintroduce the normal diet. Be sure that you are feeding your dog the same type of food at each meal; because changing food or changing it to rapidly can cause diarrhea in any dog.
