Dog Beds

For dog owners, there’s nothing nicer than seeing your dog curled up and sleeping in comfort, with the knowledge it is totally at ease. The occasional twitch and whoop from your pup when it is in a deep dream never fails to raise a smile. A happy dog means a happy owner, and it all begins with dog beds.

While the traditional practice of putting a dog outside for the night in a dog house is still relevant for working animals, family pets are very much kept inside. Not only does this promote a friendlier personality from the dog, it also helps owners bond with it. There is no need to let the animal sleep in your bed, but certainly keeping it in the house allows it to feel wanted and comfortable.

There are almost as many types of dog beds as there are dogs. The huge number of different breeds of all shapes and sizes means the choice is almost endless. From luxury dog beds that resemble regal pillows to plastic dog beds that are good for teething pups, making a decision can be tricky. Some other popular choices are bean bags, wicker dog beds and extra soft beds. In all honesty, as long as the animal can get its smell on it to make it a personal space, anything is better than the floor!

While some owners are dead set on buying the highest quality, diamond lined beds for their royal canine subjects, most other people go with what is available at the pet shop. That’s all well and good, but it’s important to make sure the dog has enough room to spread out and get comfortable. A fully grown adult would prefer not to sleep in a child sized bed because it wouldn’t be very nice- the same thing goes for a dog.

Bean bags are hugely popular with dogs. Not only are they among the most comfortable pieces of furniture ever made, the dog is able to cover a bean bag with its own scent and make it homely. For owners, the beauty of a bean bag is that it can be washed easily, so if it becomes too smelly or dirty a quick spin in the washing machine will make it as good as new!

So when going out to buy a dog bed, the most important thing to keep in mind is the size of the dog, which dictates how big a bed to get. You’ll obviously have a budget in mind, so be aware that some materials and designs are more expensive than others- plastic dog beds for example are quite cheap and robust, whereas wicker dog beds are more expensive. If possible try to buy a few blankets or pillows to put in the bed too, as this will make it a nice soft place to sleep. You wouldn’t want to sleep on a bed without a mattress, so why should your dog? The idea is to buy something that looks nice, will stand up to a bit of chewing, and will allow your dog to relax.

Getting the right bed for your dog is essential to make it feel comfortable and part of the family. While the selection of dog beds available is almost endless, hopefully some of the suggestions raised here will help you make up your mind about which one to get. A happy dog means a happy owner, so get that dog bed today!

There loads of places to shop for dog beds online. Well known retail websites like Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com have a great selection, but specialist online pet stores such as Pet Supermarket in the UK, and Value Pet Supplies and Pets Warehouse in the US are fully stocked with every kind of bed you can imagine.
