Meet the Speed:Â Max

Max is a southern boy for sure. His sire is from Alabama, his mother from Georgia and spent his first year and a half with us in Mississippi. His litter was bred for show competition, but heâs showing them all that heâs more than just a pretty face. Heâs a true southern gentleman when he takes his treats during training, but watch your fingers if you offer him liver! This and his increase in running speed has earned him the nickname âLiver Manâ.
Max takes the hurdles of Flyball like a boss, but refuses to jump onto the couch or the bed. He prefers to sleep on the floor at your feet, or in his den (kennel). Heâs definitely not a cuddler.
His favorite toy to bring his Daddy and Mommy at home is his raccoon that heâs had since he was five months old. Unless his Kong is within reach. Then heâll bring it to the first human he sees and demand peanut butter. Youâll know the demand because he will stare at you as if heâs willing you to do his bidding.

Polo Grounds Demo

Ballistic Racers Flyball Team put on an excellent flyball demonstration for the Polo spectators on Sunday afternoon July 7th 2013. The crowd watched and was amazed to see training techniques and various line-ups with all sizes, shapes and breeds of dogs. Many spectators had never seen the sport of flyball, a relay race for âManâs Best Friendâ.
Ballistic Racers even had their own Polo player on the team, Linda Drabova, with her dog Indie. Indie is one of the âheight dogsâ on the team. He and all the other small dogs on the team play a very important role, by keeping the height of the hurdles down.
It was a fun and enjoyable afternoon with a smile on every face at the Polo Match in Del Mar!

Las Vegas Gets Hit By The Cyclones!

On June 8th and 9th the temperatures were extremely hot in Las Vegas, and so were the Cyclones of The Ballistic Racers Flyball Team. With a First Place win on Saturday and another on Sunday, the Cyclones were floating on cloud nine at The Race n Go Flyball Tournament. Vegas, Cody, Mochi, Indie, Molly, and Pooky had clean runs which put them in First Place. Bullet Dogs did well too, with a Second Place win on Saturday and a Third Place win on Sunday.
It was on outstanding weekend of racing for the Ballistic Racers, placing on both days with both teams in the Riviera Hotel and Casino. To make things even better, they had the best Flyball Fumble Recovery ever posted on YouTube. Be sure to watch it as Zippy makes his fantastic save by running through the spectators to retrieve his ball, and then finishes the race!
All in all, it was a great weekend of flyball racing with our teammates and âManâs Best Friendâ.
Go Ballistic!

Meet the Speed â Cody

Cody is a minature Australian Shepard he was born on April 19, 2006 and came to live with me six weeks after that. I bought him from a friend that breeds this type of dog in the Hemet area. Cody was a very lovable puppy and he loves to play with stuffed toys but one day he found this round object that rolls around and that was it he was hooked â¦.so now if there is a ball to be had Cody will find it and bring it to you to throw, he also plays with it alone when he has no one to throw it. He will fling it around with his paw and chase it. One day in the year 2010 my daughter Mandy came to me and told me that we are going to join a Flyball team and that was it, our Flyball career had begun. Cody took to Flyball easily since he was already ball obsessed, once he knows its time to race he gets all wound up starts barking and is ready to race. Cody has done well for a small dog and on occasion is put in as a start dog.
Cody is not an in your face love me dogâ¦but he does have his moments when he will get on your lap asking for love, he prefers the butt scratch and wonât leave you alone after that. Cody is a herding dog so he took to my horse easily and we chase each other back and forth when I am training my horse in the arena. Cody is a unique dog and will always have a special place in my heart always.

Apollo is 7 and we have had him since he was 10 weeks of ageâ¦.our only puppy rescue found in a cardboard box with 9 siblings. Apollo has shown himself to be one of the smartest dogs I have ever owned and was beginning to compete in flyball in only 5 months after learning the game. In 2012 he earned his first flyball titles and continues to improve his game. His other interest include agility and cuddling and romps at the beach with his brother.

Meet the Speed â Archer

On Targetâs Danger Zone, aka âArcherâ, is a Border Collie/ Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix, born April 14, 2011. We are very proud parents of a loving, sweet, handsome little guy who has an amazing wild streak when it comes to flyball. Heâs an all-round athlete when it comes to histraining and running competitively. Archer started his training for flyball as a puppy, and it seemed to come naturally. He started competing late summer of 2012. You can definitely hear this little man when heâs lined up and ready to run, barking and âstaffy talkingâ while heâs scrambling to be released. Itâs such a rush to watch him pass up the dog in the other lane and cross the finish line first, running in the anchor position on Ballistic Racers Bullet Dogs team. He loves the competition and only seems to run harder against faster dogs. Archer has already helped the team achieve multiple team record times and we hope heâll be there running his heart out when we achieve even more. Besides flyball, Archerâs favorite pastime is wrestling and playing chase with his big sister, Kirin.

I love Thanksgiving. The turkey, the pie, and the Purina National Dog Show! (I used to include the Macyâs Day Parade, but letâs face it; thatâs become one long commercial for crappy movies and singing groups.)
Whatâs Thanksgiving without hosts John OâHurley and expert commentator David Frei giving us the play by play on our favorite dogs?
The NBC Thanksgiving Day TV special (Noon â 2 p.m. in all times zones) will be complemented by video of the group judging of all 160-plus breeds at www.NationalDogShow.com. The online video will include six new AKC-recognized breeds with expert commentary from veteran announcer and dog show expert Wayne Ferguson. The online coverage will also feature TV personality Mary Carillo, who will provide separate on-site features and interviews from the show.
Also on Thanksgiving Day, NBC and 4mm Games is introducing a social game for dog lovers on Facebook and other digital platforms. âDog Show Friendsâ will be a virtual community in which participants can adopt, nurture and train puppies while interacting with other dogs and owners and being rewarded for responsible pet ownership. The game can be accessed via www.facebook.com/nationaldogshow and at  www.dogshowfriends.com.
And if you canât catch the show on television today (I hear thereâs football on or something like that), have no fear. It will also be available beginning Friday, Nov. 26, on Hulu.com.
Over here, weâre having our own dog show of sorts. Last night, while I was baking, Bandit licked all of the pie crust shells. This morning, he shredded a roll of paper towel. And while I was using the blender to chop cranberries and oranges, he sang me a lovely song Iâll call âMommy! Thatâs A Big Scary Noise!â
This Saturday is the 13th annual Barktober Fest at Lollypop Farm, the time when thousands of people head out to Egypt, NY for games, events, a 5K, nature walk, dog training demonstrations, tours of the shelter and lots, lots more.
Itâs a big woofing great time!
You can still register for the 5k. Just head over to Medved Running & Walking Outfitters in Pittsford today, Friday, 9/24, from 10:00 a.m. â 7:00 p.m. You can also register the day of the race. The first 150 runners, or those that raise a minimum of $ 50, will receive a long-sleeved t-shirt.
And when you head over to the festival, make sure you bring your own pup along. This is a totally dog-friendly event! (Just make sure your dog can handle the festival activity â there are noises and kids and lots of other dogs. Not a great place for dogs who are noise sensitive or anxious in crowds.)
For more information, visit Lollypop Farmâs website.
Pat McNeely and his four-legged best buddy Koda celebrate as the Grand Prize Winner of the Beneful WagWorld Dream Dog Park Contest.
Pat McNeely and his dog Koda are the big winners in the Beneful WagWorld Dream Dog Park Contest, winning a $ 500,000 renovation of the Newtown Dog Park in Johns Creek, GA.
The first-of-its-kind contest invited dog owners across America to answer the question: If you had $ 500,000 to create the ultimate dream dog park for you and your best buddy, what would you do? In addition to submitting a video that showed the many creative ways they would create their dream dog park, contest entrants were asked to write a short essay explaining how the makeover of a neighborhood dog park would enhance their daily adventures with their dog.
McNeelyâs’s design will serve as the inspiration for the dog park makeover, which will include a climbing structure, plastic tunnels, a doggie splash pad, lots of grass and shade trees, and running trails. In addition to the dog park makeover, McNeely won $ 5,000 cash and a yearâs supply of Beneful brand dog food. You can read more in the press release.
And in Rochester, be sure to check out the Greece Canal Dog Park. It may not have tunnels and climbing structures, but itâs a great place to let your dog romp around with his canine friends. You need to have a registration tag for your dogs, so check out the park website for more information and park hours.
